KITCHEN WINDOW

KITCHEN WINDOW

May is here!  May is such a beautiful month.  I love May because the roses burst into bloom, the bees are buzzing, and the air is fresh with the scent of a thousand flowers.

I also love May because it is the month of the year that holds many personal joys.  May is the month of my son Sebastian's birthday.  May is the month I was married in, so I get to celebrate the man I love.  May is the month of many birthdays of special friends.  May holds Mother's Day, a day special to us all, and May is also the month of my birthday!

I have been very busy painting this month for other people, so I haven't had the opportunity to paint for myself.  I was wondering what painting to share with you this month, when I thought of a painting that I had done sometime ago.  Recently, I was sharing my art portfolio with a couple of friends, and I was surprised that this painting elicited their interest.  I wondered why.

This painting is of my kitchen window.  It was a regular day, a view I had seen a thousand times.  Suddenly I was brought to a moment of new awareness.  I became aware of the warmth of the sunshine streaming across the windowsill.  The light bounced off the jars and the specks of flour danced as if they were fireflies.   I stopped and looked at the pansies which seemed to be nodding their dainty heads at me as if to say, "We have been sitting on this windowsill all day waiting for you to notice our beauty."

This is a photo I recently took of my kitchen windowsill.  Nothing special, right?  Well, maybe not; maybe so.  Turn the lights on in your mind and see what you see now.

This blog is all about awakening the creativity that lies within you.  I challenge you to look around you today with new eyes.  What do you see?  What do you feel?  What do you want to experience?

I've had such a wonderful weekend with my family.  I'm looking forward to friends coming to visit and moments to paint.  I hope that you are enjoying a wonderful month of May.  Life is so sweet and special.

Maybe your hands will fly up out of your dishwater, as did mine, to exclaim with joy and delight at the beauty of your own windowsill.  Life is short, my friends, drink it in.
